I'm in the #JoeyTeam, Are You?

Last night when I was randomly strolling down my Facebook page, appeared one offbeat article that my friend shared directly from asiancorrespondent.com. The reason why I am calling this article as an offbeat, because I felt my friend's side of craziness that is out of mainstreams from the rest of people. He shared new information for me while I found others are busily mumbling around politic dramas (E.g: #papamintasaham) or just selfies and status updates about the lives they are proud of. Hmm...

This article, 12 years old Indonesian jazz maestro is nominated for 2 grammys caught enough my curiosity running wild. As Indonesian, I couldn't deny the sudden awestruck feeling that hit me after reading the article. Joey Alexander is one of the Jazz world's youngest prodigies that is now having international recognition for his music talent and achievements. According to some online media coverage, This Bali-born maestro moves to New York after being covered by Wynton Marsalis, the director of Jazz at New York's Lincoln center, where he invited him to perform in the Big Apple around 3 years ago. This is one of his outstanding performances when he played for jazz legend Herbie Hancock at an event in Jakarta. Really, you will see God's gifted talents from such tinny hands!

His debut album, "My Favorite Things" (Motéma) so far has received a 4,9 out of 5 rating on amazon. Joey may be now most talked youngest musician that will be vying for two awards– ‘Best Improvised Jazz Solo’ and ‘Best Jazz Instrumental Album’ when Grammy's night comes out around in February, 2016. If he wins, he will become the youngest ever person to win a grammy after LeeAnn Rimes when she was 14. How awesome is that! Good job brotha.

He is now booked for a series of notable appearance in the coming months, including one at the Newport Jazz Festival in August. Of course, Joey Alexander's music certainly deserve thousands of supports from Indonesia not only limited to Jazz lovers. You know exactly what his true talent bring us, yes that real pride. But, the question is now how many Indonesians know exactly about Joey Alexander story and his astonishing achievement. By fact, this Joey story actually told me something beyond the improbably life of a child prodigy, more things to say for Indonesia.

It is shameful fact that we are not well aware before about this super kid because none of our local TV Stations tells us his story. You know the fact that political dramas and unworthy showbiz make more good money for the industry than such coverage. We are tragically fed with divisive and destructive information for instance the misbehavior from many of Indonesian politicians that often make us always stunned in upset and Perhaps, the glam and bizarre reality-shows for local celebrities fascinated many of Indonesians especially young people more than following for what true inspiring young model like Joey has been doing at his youngest age.
